The First Program to Prevent and Reverse Cognitive Decline

January 21, 2020 by ~ anand

“Truth is like poetry. And most people fucking hate poetry.”

The Big Short

I have been reading a book these past few months called The End of Alzheimer’s – The First Program to Prevent and Reverse Cognitive Decline by Dale E. Bredesen, MD.

The doctor who wrote the book is well respected and a professor at UCLA. This book has become incredibly relevant to my understanding of both chronic addiction and Self Injurious Skin Picking Disorder (SISPD). The doctor’s approach to treating chronic illness is so aligned with the books I have researched and written on the above disorders I have written about, I felt incredibly vindicated… and you should, too.

First of all, he addresses illness not in terms of one size treatment fits all. Bredesen calls his protocol ReCODE. And this integrative approach will help anyone addressing any form of compulsive addiction or disorder as well, because it ALL stems from mental and brain IMBALANCE. Dr. Bredesen gives the example that there are many contributing factors to such disease (in the case of the book, Alzheimers – but it pertains to most other disorders such as addiction and OCD).

He says that drug companies that give a dingle drug or pill to combat a disorder are like…

“roofers called to a home that had been pummeled with baseball-sized hail. The storm has left dozens of holes in the roof, which the homeowners would like fixed. Yet the roofers fixated on a single hole with roofing tar, keeping the rain from pouring in. Unfortunately, they did nothing about the other thirty-five holes, and the home is filling up with so much rainwater the owners are looking up specs for an arc.”

This is what I have tried to express in my books, Kiss Addiction Goodbye and Stop Picking On Me. There is no ‘silver bullet’ to make you better. You need a whole shotgun shell full of silver pellets on a wide span that focus on the Mind, Body and Spiritual underpinnings of dysfunction and disease. That is the whole point of an ‘integrative’ approach to healing: integrating the human brain, heart, and soul as one cohesive being.

In the case of the Bredesen book, this doctor takes an integrative approach to the multiple physical and mental aspects of mental imbalance. The ReCODE ‘programmatics’ approach protocol includes

  1. Prevention and reduction of inflammation
  2. Optimizing hormones, trophic factors (protein molecules that help neurons reconnect) and nutrients
  3. Eliminating toxins

On the ‘spiritual’ front of dealing with addictions and compulsions, I love 12 step programs, but especially love the ACA (Adult Children of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional Parents) program: because once you have a tarp over the roof to stop the downpour of problems in your life, you must go within to start healing up the original emotional holes that caused the roof to leak in the first place! The good news is that the information is all getting out there! There has never been a better time to get healed. As the Beatles might say when you’re fixing some holes… “It really doesn’t matter if you’re wrong – you’re right where you belong!”

Here is my favorite quote from this book:

“When Archimedes, in the third century BCE said, “Give me a long enough lever and a place to stand, and I will move the Earth,” he probably did not realize that the twenty-first-century version of his proposed lever would be constructed of billions of nervous systems and electrons and the collective synaptic network of billions of nervous systems.

“Nonetheless, I think he would agree that social networking is truly moving the Earth. And I have seen that it can move people to take control of their cognitive fate in ways they might not have used had they not been part of a social network.”

In other words, YOU are now empowered with knowledge beyond your wildest dreams. YOU can make the difference in your life. YOU can change the world by getting healthier and becoming a more whole YOU.

Let’s do this! Let’s do this now!

Cosmetic Quote of the Day – Organic Consumers Association

August 7, 2018 by ~ anand

“Consumers can avoid toxic ingredients by using USDA certified Organic Body Care and Cosmetics. the trouble is, while the USDA allow cosmetics and body care products meeting National Organic Program food and agricultural standards to be certified organic, it doesn’t police the rampant labeling fraud in the industry, where many brands make organic claims on their front label, but in facts are neither organic, nor certified.”

Cosmetic Quote of the Day – RAW RAW Girls

July 31, 2018 by ~ anand

“It is amazing how there is such a lack of regulation when it comes to cosmetics. Many ingredients in cosmetics contain toxic substances that are on the Environmental Protection Agency’s lists of hazardous wastes and hazardous substances.

“Since there was the long-ago myth that the skin is an impermeable barrier, cosmetics laws became a low priority – much to the chagrin of the American people.”

Elizabeth Howard, RawRawGirls.com

Cosmetic Quote of the Day – Living Earth Beauty

July 10, 2018 by ~ anand

“I apply the same principle to skin care as I apply to food. Both are entering my body, whether through my skin or through my mouth. Therefore, both need to be as close to nature as possible, completely pure, and entirely free of chemicals and synthetics.

Unlike the food industry, there are no legal standards for personal care products sold in the United states, meaning that we need to be savvy when shopping for healthy skin care.”

Jill Bickford, Living Earth Beauty

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Regardless of whether you are in a relationship or not, BE in a relationship with YOURSELF. Fall back in LOVE with YOU (and your skin)!

And let this be a day for your HEART to HEAL.

I am pleased to announced that the new Stop Picking On Me book with over 400 pages of content, and the accompanying highly interactive SPOM! Workbook are officially available on Amazon. I was going to wait for yet another round of revisions and proofing and corrections (and also include a forward by a licensed medical doctor), but that could take many more months. So I bit the bullet and launched it. I hope that this book will change your life dramatically for the better.

Remember who loves you babay?

I Do!

Welcome to SPOM

August 28, 2016 by ~ anand

This is a safe place where you WILL find peace, comfort, support and non judgement.

I will post updates on this blog once in a while. mainly i will be adding more pages to the main book site.

No one should suffer needlessly. There is help if you want it. Go grab it!!!

Here you will find healing ideas to stop picking on you. The website is for skin pickers: those who pick at their faces, pick at pimples, pick at cuticles, pick at split ends pick at in-grown hairs or pick at scabs. (It would address lip peeling and nail biting as well). The website addresses the problem of Compulsive and Self Injurious Skin Picking (SISP).

17 million Americans over the age of 18 suffer from acne. Studies show that roughly 4% of college students and 2% of patients who seek the help of dermatologists suffer with the affliction and women outnumber the men 8 to 1. Drugstore shelves are filled with products specifically geared towards adult woman who breakout. The audience for this webite may actually be quite a bit larger than statistics due to the taboo nature of the habit; people are less likely to admit they have a problem with skin picking as opposed to having a drinking problem. It is very insidious.

Currently the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) of Mental Disorders, the written authority on psychiatric disorders, uses the word “excoriation” for the condition. You are not alone. There thousands and thousands of people who suffer from skin picking.
